Currently training their 4th batch of students, Azad Foundation was set up by Meenu Vadera (Executive Director) in New Delhi, India, to train Indian women in driving services. Upon completion, these women work as personal drivers for a period of time before they upgrade their driving licences to commercial licences, allowing them to drive taxis. With this program, Azad aims to empower Indian women including those previously abused or trafficked, while making Delhi a safer place for women travelling in public transport.   • After transporting coal by foot from dawn to dusk, the young miners spend 4 hours of their evenings burning coal piles, to prepare the coal for sale the next day, on the fringes of the coalmines of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. The coal-pickers live in a small coal-picker's hamlet a distance away from a higher-caste hamlet where the children go to school and do not mingle with the lower-caste coal-pickers.   • After a full day of transporting coal by foot, this young girl miner spends 5 hours during her evenings burning coal piles on the fringes of the coalmines of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. The earth is literally on fire as vast subterranean coal fires burn out of control beneath the villages on the fringe of the mines, threatening sudden ground cave-ins that swallow entire homes, but the mining families still live and work in these conditions due to abject poverty.  .

  • Endless lines of coal bogeys and trains park in Asansol Junction train station in West Bengal, India - a major hub for trains transporting coal dug out from the coal belt of eastern India...In Jaintia Hills, underaged children work in unscientific, largely unmonitored and extremely dangerous underground coal mines dug out by often trafficked children using primitive methods and tools. The north eastern Indian state of Meghalaya sits on about 640 million tons of coal, with 40 million tons of that in Jaintia Hills alone which has about 5000 privately owned mines.
