Nomad Santra Banjara, aged 25, poses for a portrait with a borrowed solar lantern next to her camel in the nomadic village, Banjara Ki Dhani. Ancestrally known as rich salt merchants, until commercially packaged salt was available in the market, they now work as daily wage labourers in nearby agricultural fields. Three years ago, when the Barefoot College in Tilonia, Ajmer, Rajasthan, India, had come to sell solar panels and lanterns to them at INR 1000 per set, Santra's family were skeptics of the solar technology.
