Urbanisation: Homeless in Delhi

With over 575 million people, India will have 41 percent of its population living in cities and towns by 2030 from the present level of 286 million. Urban poverty in India remains high, at over 25 percent. Over 80 million poor people live in the cities and towns of India. (Source: National Sample Survey Organisation's survey report). This is roughly equal to the population of Egypt. Urban poverty poses the problems of housing and shelter, water, sanitation, health, education, social security and livelihoods along with special needs of vulnerable groups like women, children and aged people. Here, I explore the state of the poor and homeless in India's capital city, Delhi.
